Taiwan is the perfect place to own a scooter/motorcycle(not so perfect if you are a pedestrian).
1. The size is small and space is at a premium in Taiwan.
2. The weather allows all year use.
3. Most travel is short distances
4. Mass transit is only recently available(Taipei/KaoHsiung)
A sea of scooters as far as the eye can see.
Kymco and Sym both got their starts as part suppliers to Honda, but when Honda left the Taiwan market, they started building their own. Kymco built its first scooter in 1970 but now has 600 dealership, including the US.
Kymco's marketing slogan is "Better than Best" is a logical contradiction but they have guts in trying to turn around the idea that "Make in Taiwan" is derogatory.
In the past, "Made in Japan" was derogatory, then "Make in Taiwan" was derogatory and now, "Make in China is derogatory. This is just the march of time. People stuck in the past hold on to these old notions because it is comforting but not reality. Time moves on, things change.
They produce a lot of scooters but I am interested only in the motorcycles. They are nicely designed four stroke(Honda legacy) bikes.
This is one of the older workhorse models in nice condition.
Nowadays they have some good-looking big bikes.
