Bali Dance - Kecak

We went to 2 nights of Bali dancing in Ubud. The first was "kecak" dance. There are no musical instruments in this dance only a men's choir of voices representing a troupe of monkeys. The sounds they make can be mesmerizing. The performance are versions of stories from the Hindu classic Ramayama.

There is no artificial lighting and because the second half of the performance is a "walking on fire dance", the temple which is the stage is dark the entire time. It's hard to get a good shot.

The choir is a men's village organization called a "barung" the choir is unpaid but the principle dancers are all professionals.

Florence brought with her a "flip" video camera, below are two clips of the performance. The lighting is bad but as a member of the audience the darkness make you concentrate on the lighting and shadows. The chanting of the choir is part of the mp4 files from the flip.
